The 2014 World Series of Poker gets underway in Las Vegas later this month, but for players across Asia there was a more relevant announcement made late last week with the schedule for this year’s WSOP Asia-Pacific finally released.
Following on from the tremendous success of the inaugural WSOP APAC in 2013, which saw Daniel Negreanu win the Main Event and its AU$1.04 million first prize, the 2014 series will run from 2 to 18 October at Melbourne’s Crown Casino and features 10 bracelet events – twice as many as last year.
Added to this year’s schedule is an AU$5,000 PLO event, a second 6-max event with a cheaper AU$2,200 buy-in, an AU$1,650 NLHE Terminator, an AU$1,650 Dealer’s Choice 8-game and an AU$25,000 High Roller event.
The October dates also represent a significant change for WSOP APAC after the 2013 event was held in April, allowing for a greater separation between Crown’s other flagship event the Aussie Millions which is held each January.
From 2014 onwards, WSOP APAC and WSOP Europe will run in alternate years in a move that provides at least a little relief from the already crowded international poker schedule.
This year’s WSOP APAC Main Event boasts two Day 1 flights beginning on Sunday 12 October.
