A new building, some flashing lights, a few fast cars … and Bon Jovi!

Written by Ben Blaschke

There is plenty to look forward to in Macau over the next few months, from the impending opening of Studio City to the annual Macau International Fireworks Display Contest and Macau Grand Prix.

But for those of us who grew up playing air guitar in our undies and dreaming of having hair the size of a large dog, the only event that matters is Bon Jovi’s two night stand at Cotai Arena on 25 and 26 September. There isn’t much Bon Jovi – and particularly iconic vocalist Jon Bon Jovi – hasn’t done since forming 32 years ago. Aside from the small matter of selling 100 million albums and having the courage to wear bright, multi-colored lycra pants in public, the charismatic front man has also forged a successful movie career, owned a few sports teams, started multiple charities, dabbled in politics and even found the time to raise four kids.

But he’s never performed in Macau! And while it’s been quite a few years since Bon Jovi has released a truly great album – a full 20 years if we’re being honest – we’re willing to pretend everything post-1995 never happened if their Macau set list sticks to the glory days … “You Give Love a Bad Name”, “Livin’ On A Prayer”, “Bad Medicine”, “Always”, “In These Arms” and “Wanted Dead Or Alive”!

Bon Jovi showed the 80s how it was done ... nice hair!

So forget Katy Perry, Rihanna, Justin Bieber and whoever else has played Cotai Arena in the past. Forget your other September appointments too. The only two words you need to know are Bon Jovi!
