ACOP springs some surprises

Written by Ben Blaschke

The crowds are building in the PokerStars LIVE Macau room at City of Dreams as the clock ticks towards next week’s Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) Main Event and already we’ve seen some interesting results with players from India, Venezuela and France celebrating impressive wins over the opening four events of this year’s series.

Incredibly, Indian players took out the first two events with Kunal Patni overcoming a 134-player field to win the HK$2,500 Rebuy Championship and Anju Abrol winning the HK$11,000 Deepstack event a day later.

Thirty-three-year-old Jose Rivas then won Venezuela’s first Spadie with success in the HK$11,000 6-max before Frenchman Klaus Pautrot beat out the 79-player field in last night’s Omaha event.

Today sees the HK$2,500 Knockout Bounty event from 15:30 although all eyes are on the two big events coming up in the next few days – the HK$500,000 Super High Roller starting Saturday 1 November and the ACOP main Event starting next Tuesday 4 November.
