Poker Tournament coverage

All eyes on ACOP

Written by Ben Blaschke

It’s been a big year for the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room, having moved to its new home at City of Dreams and hosted a number of major tournament series in the months since. This week sees the last of these series for 2013 get underway with the Asia Championship of Poker running from Friday 18 October to Sunday 3 November.

Last year this hugely popular series featured 12 ACOP title events culminating in the HK$100,000 main event which comes with a whopping guaranteed prize pool of HK$20 million. This also doubles as the final leg of this year’s Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) which is sure to attract the biggest names from the region, while the race to be crowned Asia Player of the Year will provide plenty of incentive for the locals.

Among those players already confirmed to be in attendance are Bertrand Grospellier, Celina Lin, Raymond Wu, Bryan Huang, Randy Lew, Jonathan Karamalikis, Lee Nelson and Billy “The Croc” Argyros as well as 2013 Macau Poker Cup winners Yoshitaka Okawa, Terry Fan and Tom Alner. WGM’s very own CEO Andrew W Scott will also likely play.

With that sort of field it certainly promises to be a memorable event, however don’t fear if the bigger buy-in events are too rich for your bankroll. In a move that deserves plenty of credit, the team from PokerStars LIVE Macau are also running a series of smaller buy-in events in conjunction with the ACOP title events. So, for example, if you can’t afford the HK$11,000 Deepstack starting on Saturday 19 October, why not try the HK$2,000 the following day instead?

This is a great initiative which can not only attract new players to the game but give them the thrill of playing nearby some of the biggest names in poker at the same time. If you get a chance, pop down to City of Dreams and take a look for yourself!
