APT joins the Manila frenzy

Less than a month after PokerStars LIVE launched their brand new poker room at City of Dreams Manila, the competition has suddenly heated up in the Philippines capital with the Asian Poker Tour following suit.

The APT announced this week that they will open their very first poker room just a few kilometres down the road at the Manila Pavilion Casino Filipino, with eight operating cash tables plus tournament tables set to be up and running by the end of February.

We recently wrote a story here on wgm8.com pondering the challenges the team at PokerStars LIVE will face in Manila where there is already much more competition for players than they face in Macau. It will be interesting to see how they respond now that a genuine challenge has been put to them.

In the meantime, it’s certainly a bonus for players in Manila to have two brand new poker rooms on their doorstep. The APT poker room will host a number of tournaments throughout the year although APT CEO Jeff Mann said they will still maintain a presence at Resorts World Manila.

“We have already set the dates for our events there in 2015 and expect to stage at least two events per year at RWM for many years to come,” he said. “The APT Poker Room will simply fuel more players through satellite tournaments to these events as it will for all APT tournaments being organized in other countries.”
