Written by Ben Blaschke

Poker in Asia received another boost this week with the announcement that the famous Aussie Millions will now double as the first stop on the annual Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).

The Aussie Millions has been running since 1998 when it was known as the Australian Poker Championship and has since developed into one of the world’s premier poker tournaments attracting the best of the best to Crown Melbourne each and every year.

By aligning with the APPT, it can expect an even bigger profile across the Asia Pacific region while providing greater access to Asian players who have never played in the Aussie Millions before. The APPT is the premier poker tour in Asia with stops in Melbourne, Seoul, Auckland and of course Macau.

With this renewed support from the APPT, the 2014 Aussie Millions is shaping as one of the biggest yet with 20 events scheduled from 23 January to 10 February. The AU$10,600 main event, which was won by Malaysia’s Mervin Chan in 2013, begins on 2 February.
