Both Hawthorn and Essendon are coming off unimpressive wins against ordinary opposition last weekend. This game is massive with both clubs looking to make a statement as they head towards the finals. Essendon probably needs the win more than Hawthorn and they also benefit from playing at Etihad Stadium which suits the Bombers better than facing the Hawks at the MCG.
Having created an argument for the Bombers, I still like the Hawks to get the job done tonight. Buddy Franklin and Sam Mitchell should be back and firing for the Hawks and a nearly full strength Hawthorn are a better team than the Bombers. There is no love lost between these two so expect a packed house and one of the best Friday night games of the year.
