Big Jim’s weekend preview

Written by James Potter

This is the last weekend of the Games and we have plenty of finals in the team events, which should create lots of interest. I expect plenty of gold for the US, and there might also be some joy for the Aussies in the water polo and hockey.

The relays will be the highlight of this weekend, and the men’s marathon will see us done and dusted before we kick back for the closing ceremony. The athletes must be looking forward to hitting the town for the biggest party on the planet before they head back to training for the next Olympics in Rio. It’s been a good Games but I am happy to be getting back to real sport.

Speaking of real sport we have the last golf major of the year coming up, the US PGA Championship. This tournament is clearly the poor cousin of the other three majors, but at the end of the day when you add up how many majors a player has won, it counts just as much. Tiger Woods is sitting at around 10/1 – a crazy price. He is in good form (although not at his best yet), and it might be a long time before we get this big a price for the Tiger. I like Kuchar, Watson, Garcia and Johnson as other good chances at better odds.

There will be plenty of action in baseball as we head towards the playoffs, and plenty of Australian football and rugby league from Down Under. I reckon the Gold Coast Suns will beat Greater Western Sydney in the AFL, and what a great round we have in store in the NRL! I’m backing Wests Tigers, Penrith and Sydney City to win in the tough games coming up.

Good luck and good punting.
