Big Jim’s weekend preview

Written by James Potter

It’s all about tennis this weekend. Huge crowds will be flocking to New York’s Flushing Meadows to witness the action at the last Grand Slam event of the year.

There are only two main contenders in the men’s draw – Federer and Djokovic. I have a feeling one will fall reasonably early and the other one will win easily. Djokovic seems a mouthwatering proposition as he is clearly the best hard court player going around. The problem is Federer is back, and it is a brave man who bets against the best ever.

It’s the last round in both the AFL and NRL. The AFL finals are now set in concrete after some shock results last weekend. There is plenty of interest, however, as teams battle it out for positioning in the final eight. Hawthorn is the team to beat. If you think there is a team that can defeat the Hawks at the MCG in September then get behind them as you will get a great price.

Man City looked suspect again last weekend against Liverpool and my prediction about Chelsea being a hot contender for the title continues to look good. The game of the week pits Liverpool at home against Arsenal. I think the home team should come away with the points here. Arsenal can’t score goals and if you can’t put the ball in the old onion bag then you can’t win games. If Liverpool came close to beating Man City, then they can surely win against a Gunners outfit playing with about as much attacking prowess as a toothless lion.

Good luck and good punting.
