Big Jim’s weekend preview

I’m getting right behind the Aussies in the Test match against Sri Lanka starting later this week. Their pace attack should be able to get a lot of movement off the seam down there in Hobart. All eyes will be on Phillip Hughes during his third chance on the big stage. He seems to have matured a little so let’s hope he will become the force everyone tipped him to be. You might want to put a little on the Aussies to win the series 3-0 – as long as the rain holds off, it should be a good bet!

Last weekend really set us up for an exciting final three weeks in the NFL! With the Cowboys, Redskins, Seahawks and Vikings all winning, and the Steelers, Ravens, Bears and Bengals all losing, the playoff picture is just as complicated as it was a week ago. The battle of the wildcards is well and truly on, so get ready for some incredible games! My advice for late-season betting is simple – don’t bet on teams that have nothing to play for. You have to monitor the mindset of a squad. When it’s cold and exhaustion sets in, even the most disciplined professional can struggle to find inspiration if their season is effectively over.

The NBA is our friend during the holiday period. When most other sports are shutting down for a few weeks and there is nothing on TV but reruns of Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, you have to be thankful to the boys from the NBA for bringing us plenty of games to watch and bet on!

Golf and T20 cricket from Australia are also on the menu and there will be more heading our way next month when we welcome 2013!

Good luck and good punting.
