Big Jim’s weekend preview

Written by James Potter

This is the last quiet weekend before the sporting world reaches top gear again in January. I hope you are recovering from Christmas and getting ready for a big New Year celebration.

It’s the last week of the regular NFL season and there is plenty of interest as over half the games have playoff implications. The Redskins, Cowboys, Vikings, Bears and Giants will be trying to claim their spot. I have a feeling the Redskins and the Bears will get there but don’t write off the Vikings or the Cowboys either. Green Bay and Houston will also be desperate to win as this last round will decide who gets the home-field advantage throughout the playoffs – a factor which will affect their Super Bowl chances a great deal.

Manchester United are now seven points clear in the EPL title race – a mountain which might already be too high for Man City or Chelsea to climb. The Potters aren’t doing too bad and should crush Southampton on Saturday but Manchester United vs West Bromwich and Everton vs Chelsea are the pick of the matches this weekend.

I hope wherever you are in the world you have been able to stream the KFC T20 Big Bash League. It really is cracking entertainment. It’s round 5 and I reckon the Strikers will upset the Stars, the Heat should beat the pathetic Sydney Thunder and the Scorchers should get over the unbeaten Renegades in Perth.

Tennis, golf and many more great sports are just around the corner so enjoy the calm before the storm. Bring on 2013!

Good luck and good punting.
