Big Jim’s weekend preview

Written by James Potter

For all the rugby lovers out there, this is going to be one hell of a big weekend! In the Northern Hemisphere, we have a full round of the Six Nations Championship to look forward to. France will be trying to win back some pride against the English at Twickenham and Scotland will be taking on the Irish at Murrayfield. In the Southern Hemisphere, we have the first full round of the Super 15 competition. The best two games will feature the Bulls taking on the Stormers in South Africa and the Reds taking on the Waratahs in Australia. I will make sure I give a rugby tip this weekend, so let’s sit back and hope the officials keep the whistle blowing to a minimum. For the record, I like France, Scotland, the Stormers and the Waratahs all at the line.

The Accenture Match Play Championship will provide some excellent golf this weekend. This is one of those tournaments in which the early rounds are actually more exciting than the later rounds, as there are more games to watch prior to the weekend’s action. The purse on offer here is just under US$9 million, and there are some bonus FedEx Cup points up for grabs which will have the top 30 fighting it out for the US$10 million first place prize to be awarded later in the year. The format of this tournament makes it difficult to select a winner, so when in doubt put your trust in the Tiger who has had a few weeks off after his first win of the year.

In the football, Reading vs Wigan will have huge ramifications on the relegation battle and may be the most important game in the EPL on Saturday. The Sunday blockbuster concept continues with Manchester City hosting Chelsea. This is obviously the pick of the weekend games. West Ham has had a funny season and appears to be getting back on track, so don’t underestimate them against Tottenham on Monday night.

Good luck and good punting.
