Buckle up boys and girls for another huge Easter weekend of sport. Let the Easter Bunny bring you plenty of chocolate for your tummy and I will line your pockets with gold by picking you plenty of winners.
If you love your horse racing then get ready for the world’s richest day of racing from Dubai this weekend. There is an impressive nine race card featuring the world’s richest race, the US$10 million Dubai World Cup. This is one hell of a tough race. I am leaning towards Hunter’s Light each way at around 5/1 ($6.00) but any of the 13 can feature. The best long shot is the UK trained and well-travelled Red Cadeaux – runner-up in the 2011 Melbourne Cup – at 25/1. The best of the day might be in the Dubai Sheema Classic where I like Gentildonna at around 2/1 ($3.00), but this race is only worth a lazy US$5 million so I don’t even know why they bother!
The AFL season kicks off properly this weekend and there are a few teams I really like. Collingwood and Hawthorn should be too strong and I like both of these teams to cover the line. The 20 point head start the Bulldogs receive at home seems very generous. I will be out at the MCG on Thursday night with a pie and a beer cheering on my Tigers against the Blues but this game is too hard to pick.
I absolutely love Rory McIlroy at the Shell Houston Open this weekend as he has been doing some charity work, is well rested, and will be hungrier than a starving vulture attacking a carcass. I will be backing him to win and to place plus I’ll back him in tournament head-to-heads against all and sundry. My best long shot would be Dustin Johnson. The big hitting American is due for form reversal and it would be nice to see him hit his straps at the right time of the year.
In the NRL I rate the Tigers and the Roosters at the line and will also be backing South Sydney and Cronulla. The rest of the games are probably too difficult to pick with any accuracy. In the Super 15 I believe the Reds, Blues, Bulls and Rebels will all be worthwhile handicap/line/spread bets with perhaps the Bulls being the standout against the Brumbies who return from a hard road trip from South Africa.
Tennis, NBA (just keep backing the Heat), ice hockey, group horse racing from Australia – the list goes on and on so if you are having a quiet Easter at least there will be plenty of sport to keep you entertained. Good luck and may the gambling Gods be good to you.
