Big Jim's weekend preview

Written by James Potter

Well, I’m pretty thankful that ice hockey has come to an end. You can’t love every sport (no matter how hard you try) and the ice rink leaves me a little bit cold … pardon the pun. Still, if you listened to my mate and put a few dollars on the Kings like I did, then at least you enjoyed a win.

Euro 2012 will have plenty of good matches on this weekend, and they’re sure to be interesting now that the first round of matches are out of the way. Some teams will start to get desperate to win games, whereas others will try to hang on for draws to pick up a valuable point. Look for good teams that need to win as they will provide excellent value. Competitions of this caliber always favor the good teams, and the pretenders begin to drop as soon as the heat is turned up.

Speaking of ‘heat’ … the NBA Finals are underway and what an absolute treat we have in store for you in the next week or so. In Game 1, the Thunder overcame a seven point halftime deficit to crush the Miami superstars in Oklahoma. But don’t get too excited, as much as I would love to see the Thunder throw cold water over the Heat it ain’t going to be easy. LeBron, Wade and Bosh are all showing signs of running into championship form, and if they decide to play some defense they could be brutal and hard to beat in the upcoming games.

If all that isn’t enough to keep you entertained, we have the US Open coming direct from California. Can Rory defend his title? Is Tiger really back? Can Westwood and Donald live up to their world rankings and get the job done when it matters, or will a no-name golfer emerge from the pack to catapult himself up into the top echelon of golf? All I can say is that I am going to get behind Tiger to shove it right up his critics … but hey … I have a soft spot for the Tiger.

Good luck and good punting.
