Big Jim’s weekend preview

Written by James Potter

What about them Pacers!!! I mean, wow — they really believe they can win this thing. They are without doubt the second best team in the NBA at the moment and might even be the best. I have always thought of them as an incredible young team with an abundance of talent and Larry Bird’s influence there has molded them into a serious team. Having said that, with the series tied at two games apiece, I still think the Heat will rally. They just have so many weapons. If you take LeBron out of the game he just feeds it to Wade and co who are guns themselves. Basketball doesn’t get any better than this and although I am going to be sticking firm with the Heat, Indiana have my attention now as a serious threat.

The tennis will start to get interesting as we move into the first weekend of the French Open. It’s always great to get through the first couple of rounds and see how the guns are settling in. With Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic likely to meet in the semis it would be great to see Roger Federer get through on the other side of the draw to set up a classic final but I think there is some value in the women’s draw and I am happy to lay Serena and back those who are paying a longer price in the futures markets.

Forget about the NRL this weekend and stick with the AFL and the Super 15. The star players are out in the NRL as they prepare for State of Origin. Next week I will have a full round-up of how the mighty Blues can turn the tables on the Maroons this year. I am fairly happy with the team selected for the Blues — especially in the forwards — and maybe 2013 is the start of some long overdue NSW domination.

Good luck and good punting.
