Big Jim's weekend preview

Written by James Potter

The highlight this weekend will be the last crucial football game of the season. Chelsea will take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League final. The game will be played in Munich even though the venue was determined well before the start of this year’s competition. This is the most important game held every year in club football.

It should be a close game but I am picking Chelsea for a few reasons. It’s been a forgettable year for Chelsea in the Premiership. A Champions League title and an FA Cup would turn an overall bad year into a fairly good one. The forgettable year would also become irrelevant, as they would receive automatic Champions League qualification next season as defending champions.

Bayern Munich have already exceeded expectations by making it this far and the pressure of playing at home will be extraordinary. The stakes are not as high for the mighty German team. The German League just doesn’t have the cut and thrust of the EPL, so I think Chelsea will be tougher when it matters.

The NBA finals keep rolling and there is no better time to be a hoops fan. I hope the Pacers and Clippers can keep competing, and I also think the Thunder should put an end to the Lakers and their A-list idiot supporters like Justin Timberlake and Jack Nicholson who like to think of themselves as part of the team.

It’s a good weekend on the Aussie front with the grand final replay in the AFL, where Collingwood should prove too strong for the Cats, and a Dreamtime blockbuster between Essendon and the mighty Richmond Tigers. Go Tigers!

Golf from Texas, ice hockey, tennis from Europe … remember that too much sport is never enough.

Good luck and good punting.
