Big Jim's weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

The Australian football finals are now in full swing and we have been blessed with some incredible action. Hawthorn have become very short (in truth, too short to back), but they are without a doubt the team to beat. The Swans are a clear second pick after their heroic win on the weekend, but it seems as though all the other teams except the Crows have a chance to win.

The NRL finals are also underway with Canterbury proving too good for Manly, and Melbourne smashing the Bunnies on the weekend. These two losing teams will get another chance next week when they take on North Queensland and Canberra respectively. Cronulla have bowed out after an incredible season, but I’d be keeping a close eye on them over the next few years. The Broncos, on the other hand, were far from impressive and they are going to have to do some rebuilding if they want to emerge as title contenders in the future. The Canberra Raiders are the feel-good story of the year and have shocked everyone by making it through to the second week of the finals.

The NFL season kicked off on the weekend and I have to admit I pushed you towards some losers. The Patriots, the 49ers and the Broncos were probably the standouts in week one, but there is still a long way to go. If you want to back Green Bay to win the flag then now is your best chance as they will shorten when they start to win.

The baseball finals are just around the corner so now might be a good time to place a future bet on them. Apart from Texas and Washington, the competition looks very tight. The Red Sox won’t make it and even the Yankees could miss out on the finals, which would be a dream come true!

We’ve had some great action in the EPL, US Open and PGA Tour, and there will be more to come in the following week.

Good luck and good punting.
