Big Jim's weekend wrap

Well, it appears as though I got the baseball World Series horribly wrong. The Detroit Tigers have been totally outclassed in the first three games by the Giants. I thought this was going to be either a nail biting World Series or a Tigers whitewash. The last thing anyone expected was the Giants getting off to a 3-0 lead in the series. Credit where credit is due – the Giants have been simply awesome!

The golf from Malaysia was fantastic and how great was it to watch golf during daylight hours instead of having to set the alarm and get up in the middle of the night. Tiger gave it his best shot and was in contention all week, but it was Nick Watney who fired an amazing final round of 61 to win by a stroke. The next golf stop is China and that will be another fantastic event.

Man City and Arsenal scraped through with 1-0 wins at home but it was Sunday’s games that had everyone salivating. Everton got off to a horrible start but managed to come back from two-nil down to salvage a point. Manchester United got on top of Chelsea in London with a 3-2 victory. Two good teams and plenty of attacking football – it doesn’t get much better than that!

American college football is huge in the US and many people even prefer it to the professional game. The Alabama Crimson Tide is the best team in the competition but there’s a huge fight going on to see who will secure the much-heralded second national seeding spot. Florida will drop back after a loss and it will be interesting to see where Kansas State, Oregon and Notre Dame end up after recording impressive victories. It would be great to see any of these teams play in a national championship since they aren’t considered to be traditional football powerhouses.

Good luck and good punting.
