Big Jim's weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

In college football we are going to see Alabama and Notre Dame battle it out for the BCS Championship. The Irish were undefeated this year, but facing the Crimson Tide in the biggest game of the year in college football is a whole different story.

In the NFL, we saw plenty of upsets over the weekend. Seattle beat up the Bears and the Rams beat the 49ers. Pittsburgh found a way to defeat Baltimore and Cleveland won another game in Oakland. If you wanted to see some drama then it was the perfect weekend as most of the underdogs who needed to win, came out on top.

The EPL kept the underdog theme alive with another string of upsets. Arsenal and Chelsea lost, while Manchester City could only manage a draw at home. United let in three goals against Reading but were lucky enough to score four themselves. Unfortunately, the two teams from Manchester are standing clear at the top of the table, however, this should change when they play each other next week. The good news is there are only four points separating third and ninth spot on the table! Heavyweights Arsenal and Liverpool don’t even figure in the top nine, so at the very least, we should have a good tussle for the final two European spots this year.

The South Africans set the Australians over 600 runs to chase down at the final Test in Perth after Hashim Amla ground the Aussies into dust with a blistering 196 run innings! I take my hat off to Amla who continues to show he is something special. He might be better than all the modern-day greats by the end of his career. He keeps piling on the runs against all the opposition he faces, and more importantly, he does it when his team needs him most.

Good luck and good punting.
