Big Jim's weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

Hats off to the English. It’s no mean feat for a team to go to India and win a Test series. They also did it in a comeback after losing the first Test. The Indian cricket team is in dire trouble at the moment – they have an age problem with Tendulkar, Sehwag and Yuvraj all at the end of their careers. Their bowling attack is questionable and they have a captain who should be concentrating on his keeping and batting rather than worrying about managing the team. The dreaded cleanout needs to be done now. I reckon they should give Kholi the captaincy and see what the next generation of Indian cricketers can deliver.

The Manchester derby lived up to all expectations. Five goals, an extra time clincher by van Persie, a Rooney double, an amazing comeback and a heart wrenching finish – football at its best! The West Ham vs Liverpool game was also another five-goal thriller on what could very well be described as super Sunday. Chelsea and Arsenal also got the job done on a weekend where the old school heavyweights reigned supreme.

Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 ended with the Filipino pocket dynamo laying knocked out on the canvas. A thunderous punch at the end of the sixth round from the Mexican brought an end to Pac-Man’s night and quite possibly his career. Manny has now lost his last two fights and it’s questionable whether he’ll ever step back into the ring.

Everyone has been waiting to see the fight between Pacquiao vs Mayweather, but is it still relevant? After losing his last fight, Manny would be regarded as a massive underdog and he would not deserve the purse Mayweather would insist on. If Manny calls it quits now he retires as one of the best ever. If he goes into the ring and gets toweled up again then he risks his health and his legacy. However, professional sportsmen have long retirements and a win over Mayweather would be an amazing end to an amazing career. He should either throw everything into this last defining fight or retire now. I hope he makes the best decision for himself.

Good luck and good punting.
