Big Jim’s weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

There is some excellent cricket going on in India as the home team take on their rivals Pakistan. The two-match T20 series ended at one apiece, but Pakistan is off to a flyer in the one-day competition. I would keep betting on the visitors as they are an underrated team and they will start as clear underdogs in the remaining games, giving you a very good price for your bet.

The Renegades suffered their first defeat in the KFC T20 Big Bash League, at the hands of the Perth Scorchers. The win puts the boys from Perth back in the running for the finals. I reckon the Stars look like great value for the title at around 5/2 ($3.50), and the best long-odds bet is the Strikers at 11/2 ($6.50).

In the EPL, Santa gave us a goal-scoring frenzy for Christmas this year with over 40 goals scored in the 10 games over the weekend. All the big guns came out to play and Arsenal put an incredible seven goals in the back of the net! The big losers were Everton and West Ham who both suffered devastating losses. Stoke let a golden opportunity slip by when they only managed a draw at home. There’s a full round of midweek games on and some interesting matchups, so don’t miss it!

Avery Johnson has been fired from the Brooklyn Nets despite having a 50 percent winning record. The word on the street is they’re knocking on Phil Jackson’s door for next year but PJ Carlesimo is the man for now. The Clippers are smashing up the court on a 16-game winning streak! This is an amazing effort but they’re still around 10/1 to win the Championship. I reckon this price is about right and I would still be looking more seriously at the Heat, Thunder or Lakers. The Bobcats are at the other end of the spectrum and have had their butts whipped in the last 18 games.

It has been a huge weekend in the NFL but I will cover it all in a special weekend preview dedicated to American football as we head into the playoffs.

Good luck and good punting.
