Big Jim’s weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

It was a good weekend in cricket with the Sri Lankans bouncing back against the Aussies in the second One-day International in Adelaide. The loss prompted Australian coach Mickey Arthur to have an old-fashioned sook about the media and the Australians’ bewildering rotation policy. If it’s too hot for you Mickey, get out of the kitchen! Coaches and sportsmen who complain about the media should have a long hard think about how they make their money. The Kiwis are being pumped by South Africa again, which is sad for cricket but on a more positive note, the KFC T20 Big Bash League finals are on early this week so tune in! I’m getting behind the Renegades and the Scorchers to win their respective home field semi-final games.

The Ravens’ win against the Broncos in double overtime was one of the best games of football we will ever see. They will now travel to New England to meet the Patriots in a repeat of last years’ AFC Championship. The boring Patriots could have beaten the even more boring Texans by 30 points if they had bothered to on the weekend. However, this will be one hell of a game next weekend if the Ravens aren’t too exhausted. In the NFC Championship Game we will see the impressive 49ers travel to take on the not-so-impressive Falcons. One would think the 49ers are looking good to make their return to the biggest game of them all.

Both Manchester clubs got the job done this weekend, which is good for them but may have put an end to any prospect of an exciting finish to the season. City and United really are a class above the rest at the moment. At least Reading and QPR are hitting some form, which might make things in the relegation race a little more interesting.

All eyes will now be turning towards the Australian Open as all of the lead-up tournaments are out of the way. This should keep us entertained until next weekend at least.

Good luck and good punting.
