Big Jim's weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

The hunt for the EPL title is rarely a cakewalk. This year it has been one-way traffic with Manchester United utterly dominating the competition. Their performance against the Queens Park Rangers this weekend was another perfect example of how you should win a title. Their main opponents have been disappointing, but the team Sir Alex has assembled this year is amongst his best ever.

In the golf, Tiger and Rory were knocked out in the first round of the Accenture Match Play Championship. It seems like it’s going to be feast or famine for both of them this year. Rory was average in his matchup but Tiger played well and just happened to run into a hot Charles Howell III. It was mighty Matt Kuchar, sporting a beanie to protect his bald head from the snow, who beat Hunter Mahan in the final.

If Test cricket is your cup of tea then you were treated to a great weekend with Pakistan taking on South Africa and the Aussies taking on India. The South Africans reaffirmed their status as the best team in the world defeating the Pakistanis far too easily. This tour of India was always going to be fascinating for Australian cricket. The cream certainly rose to the top in the first few days of the first Test. Batting was made to look easy by the likes of Clarke, Tendulkar, Kohli and Dhoni but the dominance of the Indian spinners was always going to provide the real test. The Aussies were fooling themselves going into the match with four quicks on a dust pit of a playing surface. They had better find some help for Lyon or this is going to be a very long tour.

In the rugby, England came back from a halftime deficit to beat the French. The Scots also managed to beat the Irish even though they were clearly the inferior team. In the Super 15, the Brumbies, the Reds and the Blues were all very impressive winners. Watch out for the Blues – if they can get everything together, they may be very hard to beat.

Good luck and good punting.
