Big Jim's weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

The biggest news in the world of sport this weekend was Rory McIlroy dropping out midway through the second round of the Honda Classic. The Northern Irish superstar claimed he had wisdom teeth problems along with form and mental issues. We have seen Rory fall apart before but not for some time, and now the amiable superstar may be struggling like a great horse being weighed down with a handicap. It is a fascinating time in the world of golf and I am not usually one to shed tears for multimillionaire athletes, but I really hope Rory can sort out his troubles and get back to playing his best.

The Auckland Blues were scintillating against the Crusaders on the weekend in the Super 15 rugby. They went in four-point underdogs and set about dismantling the Crusaders who looked rusty at best. The Crusaders will get better but the years of the blues might be over for the Blues if this form continues. The Chiefs were dominant against the Cheetahs who proved to be as hopeless as the market suggested.

Harness racing’s biggest day in Asia Pacific was on over the weekend with Perth superstar Im Themightyquinn winning his third straight Inter Dominion Final. Gary Hall Jr was jubilant as the champion came from last on the final lap in a blistering display giving punters a very tasty $3.50 dividend for the win. I’m far from convinced about the long-term future of the harness racing industry, but this was a great race and one which true sporting lovers should appreciate.

Good luck and good punting.
