Big Jim’s weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

Scotsman Martin Laird shot an astonishing final round 63 to claim a two shot victory at the Valero Texas Open but it was the return to form of world number two Rory McIlroy, who finished second just two shots off the pace, that caught the eye. We have had a great year on the golf this year and it is great to see one of our favorites back in form on the eve of the US Masters. Rory appears to be back on track and the stage is set for a classic showdown with Tiger Woods later this week.

There were no great surprises in the English Premier League and it seems there are now just two main questions to be answered this season – who earns the final available place in next year’s Champions League and who will join QPR and Reading in the Football League Championship in 2013/14. Wigan, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke are the clubs most in danger of joining them.

Collingwood has handed Carlton their second loss in two weeks after an amazing game in front of a packed house at the MCG. Those of you who backed Carlton at the line would have been looking for a bridge to jump off after Collingwood kicked two goals in the final minute to just cover the spread. The Tigers kicked a point in the dying seconds of their game to cover the spread against St Kilda on Friday night, which had Big Jim punters smiling.

Good luck and good punting.
