Big Jim’s weekend wrap

Written by James Potter

It was a huge weekend of Australian Rules Football (AFL) and we went one from two with our tips. Essendon continued to defy the odds by beating Collingwood in front of 90,000 fans at the MCG but we got the chocolates with Richmond on the line. Richmond was robbed of victory by umpire error which has again brought the video referral system back under scrutiny. At least the Tigers did enough for us to easily cover the spread.

What went wrong at Newcastle? The Magpies are still in the EPL relegation battle after they conceded six goals at home to Liverpool! The Aston Villa v Sunderland clash tomorrow morning is going to answer quite a few questions about who is still in trouble but Wigan should still be hopeful they can perform another magic act this season and avoid going down. We were looking good when Theo Walcott put Arsenal ahead in the opening minutes against Manchester United but the Arsenal faithful would have felt like swallowing glass when that man Robin van Persie leveled before half time.

As I predicted, the NBA playoffs have been going to plan. The Heat has barely raised a sweat, the Spurs are galloping to the next round and the Knicks haven’t needed to move out of first gear. The big surprise has been Chicago’s overnight ability to actually play offense and the Grizzlies’ tough effort against the Clippers. The Clippers were humbled in game four of their series to have series tied up at 2-2. They have all the talent in the world and could trouble the likes of the Spurs and Thunder in the next few rounds but the playoffs are where it counts and there isn’t much margin for error at the back end of the season. I will get back to you with my selections for round two of the playoffs when they are finalized.

Good luck and good punting.
