Casino heist suspects arrested in Singapore

Written by Ben Blaschke

Five people, including a former casino dealer, have been arrested after it was discovered they had cheated Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands (MBS) out of a large quantity of cash in an “overpaying” scheme.

Police swooped last Saturday, arresting four men and one woman and seizing US$118,000 in cash. Among those detained was a 23-year-old man who used to work at the casino and is accused of paying his accomplices more than they had actually won.

He will be charged with criminal breach of trust which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years, while the other four will be charged with cheating at play and face a jail term of up to seven years or a fine of up to US$150,000.

Ironically, another six people were arrested in Singapore last weekend on suspicion of using electronic devices to cheat MBS rival Resorts World Sentosa after being observed filming slot machines.
