China’s Rio Olympics team has been angered by a glaring error on the Chinese flags being hoisted at their Olympic Games medal ceremonies.
Officials noticed that the four smaller stars on the flags produced for Rio are misaligned. Rather than the four smaller stars all tilting towards the larger star that represents the Communist Party, they all point directly upwards.
The flag has not only been used in medal ceremonies at Rio but was also carried by fencer Lei Sheng in the opening ceremony. News service AFP is reporting that Chinese officials have lodged a diplomatic protest, with organizers left scrambling to replace the flags as soon as possible.
