China to build full-scale Titanic replica

Written by Ben Blaschke

China is taking its love of unique tourist attractions to new heights with the construction of the world’s first full size replica of the Titanic.

Weighing 52,310 tonnes and to be moored in a reservoir in Sichuan province, the replica will not only allow visitors to walk aboard and look inside various accurately recreated rooms, it will also include a simulated iceberg collision, according to Reuters.

Hollywood production designer Curtis Schnell, currently working on the project, said, “We’re trying to get as close as we can. We are not building every room in the ship, by any means, but the shell of the ship and the exteriors will be quite accurate. There will be interior rooms to be able to tour and see from the standpoint of historical accuracy.”

The Titanic famously sunk in 1912 after it hit an iceberg during its maiden journey between Southampton and New York.
