China’s glass bridge closed due to huge demand

Written by Ben Blaschke

Macau take note! At a time when the government is screaming for new and exciting tourist attractions, China’s new bottom-glassed bridge in Zhangjiajie has been forced to shut down luring more visitors than it can handle.

The 430 meter long bridge, which cost US$3.4 million to build, opened on 20 August and is said to be both the highest and longest glass bridge in the world, dangling 300 meters above the canyon floor.

But with the capacity to accommodate 8,000 people per day, officials found themselves swamped by 10-times that number – forcing the bridge’ closure in order to carry out urgent maintenance work.

No damage to the bridge structure has been reported, with the facilities to be including the car park and ticketing system.
