Crown Resorts employees “in good health”

Written by Ben Blaschke

The Crown Resorts employees officially arrested in China last Friday on suspicion of committing gambling crimes are in good health, according to Australian consular officials.

Three Australians who were among the 18 Crown Resorts staff detained by Chinese authorities last month were visited in Shanghai by consular staff on Tuesday after Australian government officials were notified of their arrests.

“Our consular staff visited all three yesterday and they are in good health,” Foreign Minister Julie Bishop told Sky News. “They are all represented by lawyers and we were able to provide advice and support and messages from their families.”

The immediate fate of the other 14 employees currently detained is not known, although Chinese national Jenny Jiang was released on bail on 10 November.

The employees are now expected to remain in jail for at least another two months, with their arrests also opening the door for charges to be laid.
