Darren Clarke to headline inaugural Ho Tram Open

Written by Ben Blaschke

Former British Open champion and 2016 European Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke will headline the inaugural US$1.5 million Ho Tram Open to be held at Vietnam’s The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip from 3 to 6 December this year.

The winner of 22 tournaments, Clarke adds some real star power to the newest – and one of the richest – events on the Asian Tour schedule.

“All I keep hearing is that the resort and golf course are nothing short of world-class,” said Clarke. “When I heard more about what the promoters were looking to achieve, it made the decision even easier. It’s going to be a great week for everybody with plenty of good golf, excitement and entertainment.”

Clarke will be joined by a field of 144 players including two-time European Tour winner and Bluffs ambassador Robert Rock. The Bluffs opened in late 2014 and has already been hailed as one of the most visually stunning courses in the world with its links-style layout and beachside location.

“It’s testament to the vision of our ownership group to invest in a headline event at Ho Tram, given Vietnam’s surging economy and escalating local appetite for blockbuster events,” Vice President Golf and Residential Development Ho Tram Strip, Ben Styles.

“We have a three-year event strategy dedicated to creating one of Vietnam’s most historic sporting and social occasions. With Darren and Robert in the fold, we’re in an exciting position.”
