Day and night of The San Kio District

Written by Yuci Tai

The San Kio District is Macau’s historic district and the area where the locals live. The sunrise second-hand market, selling antiques, electronic goods and clothes, is situated at Travessa da Corda and has been a feature of the district in the early mornings since the 1950s. And when the sun goes down it becomes a food street! The San Kio District has recently been brought back to life, employing retro signboard designs of the era and associated elements highlighting the old “San Kio” lifestyle.

The Lin Kai Night Market will be held from 17:00 to 23:00 from 16 August to 15 September and is situated in front of the Lin Kai Temple. It offers lots of snack stalls where you can enjoy the local delicacies and the district’s atmosphere. The San Kio Adventures Guide is held at 10:00 each Sunday from 10 to 31 August and introduces the history of The San Kio area, including Lin Kai Temple and more. The meeting point is at the San Kio Garden.

Something you can’t miss is The Feast of the Wealth God ceremony in front of Lin Kai Temple at 10:00 on 17 August. You will see the lion dance and The God of Wealth and hopefully draw some luck from it! You can obtain a leaflet from the temple and follow the designated route. If you answer the questions in the leaflet, you can even get a little God of Wealth souvenir as well. The ceremony is held from 10 to 31 August at Lin Kai Temple.
