Dealer’s Choice!

Written by Ben Blaschke

We’ve been looking forward to this one. With 65 events on the World Series of Poker schedule this year, it can be difficult to come up with something truly unique, yet as we speak an event brand new to the WSOP is taking place in the surrounds of the Rio.

The US$1,500 Six-Handed Dealer’s Choice is currently underway and it seems this brand new concept is proving to be a winner with novices and pros alike taking their seats to try their luck. So what is Dealer’s Choice? Only the most varied event you’re ever likely to see!

This tournament offers a total of 16 different variations of poker boasting everything from your typical Hold’em and Omaha to the Stud games and far less common types such as Badugi and Badacy. The full 16 games are No Limit Hold’em, Limit Hold’em, Razz, Seven Card Stud, Stud 8, Pot Limit Hold’em, PLO, PLO8, Pot Limit Five Card Draw High, Omaha 8, 2-7 Triple Draw, A-5 Triple Draw Lowball, Badugi, Badeucy, Badacy and No Limit 2-7 Single Draw.

At the start of play, the player with the Dealer button in front of them chooses which of these 16 variants he or she wishes to play. That game is then played for one full orbit – six hands at a full table – before the button moves to the next player who chooses the variant they want to play. It looms as a true test of a player’s knowledge of poker across the board, but more importantly it also promises to be a lot of fun.

We’re particularly interested to see how often players pull out Badeucy and Badacy which have never before been played at the WSOP and we dare say will be completely new to plenty of participants.

We’ll let you know next week who prevails!
