DraftKings begins foray into UK Daily Fantasy Sports market

Written by Ben Blaschke

Daily Fantasy Sports giant DraftKings might be in the midst of an epic battle for its future in the USA, but that hasn’t stopped them from following their global ambitions with the launch of its UK service last week.

The first US DFS company to be granted a European license, DraftKings will provide DFS competitions in 11 different sports but expects football to be by far the most dominant code.

“The UK was a logical fit for us,” said DraftKings’ Chief International Officer Jeffrey Haas. “Sports fans here are very passionate, everyone talks about football. We’re under no illusion that our top three sports here won’t be anything else than football, football and football.”

DraftKings had previously offered the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League to its US customers but has completely overhauled its scoring system for UK customers to incorporate 19 different scoring events in a game. The US system only counts goals, saves and assists.
