A former Air China manager has pleaded not guilty in a US court to allegations she smuggled packages on behalf of Chinese military officials and helped a Chinese national who was under investigation by the FBI.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Ying Lin has been charged with five criminal counts including smuggling and obstruction of justice.

It is alleged that Yin, who previously worked as station manager for Air China at Newark Liberty International Airport, smuggled packages for Chinese military officials and others through John F Kennedy International Airport onto planes heading to China.

The alleged crimes took place between January 2010 and April 2016.

Ms Yin also stands accused of telling an associate to flee the country and arranging for him to be on an Air China flight to Beijing in October last year after learning he was being investigated.

Ms Yin’s passport has been seized ahead of her trial.
