Gaming welcomes skill element

Written by Ben Blaschke

Skill-based slot machines look set to hit casino flows sooner rather than later with the Nevada Gaming Commission having set regulations that will oversee the implementation of a bill authorizing their use.

The new machines will be the first to boast a genuine skill component and are described as a mix between a traditional slot machine and a video or arcade game.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the Nevada Gaming Commission is eager to appeal to a younger audience in an attempt to bolster gaming revenues in the state which have fallen to around US$11 billion from a high of US$12.6 billion in 2006 and 2007. Slot machine revenue accounts for a little over half that amount.

The Nevada Gaming Commission has defined games as being skill-based, luck-based or hybrid games.
