Harrah’s robbery hurts Atlantic City image

Written by Ben Blaschke

As if Atlantic City doesn’t have enough problems to worry about, the severe bashing and robbery of an elderly man while returning to his room at Harrah’s last weekend is hardly the look the struggling casino town needs.

The 76-year-old was returning to his hotel room at around 05:00 when he was pushed inside by two men and assaulted, according to Associated Press. The pair stole casino chips, money and a mobile phone.

Harrah’s security later identified the offenders, aged 53 and 56 years old respectively, via security footage and they were arrested later that day after being spotted at Resorts. They were charged with robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy.

Despite their capture, the incident is another black mark on Atlantic City given that major hotels and casinos are one place patrons should be able to feel safe and secure.

The incident came less than 24 hours after workers picketed outside the Trump Taj Mahal casino over recently rescinded health and pension benefits. Four of Atlantic City’s 12 remaining casinos have closed their doors over the past 18 months.
