Josè Mourinho – the sacked one

Written by Ben Blaschke

Chelsea will head into the busy Christmas and New Year period without manager Josè Mourinho after the most successful manager in the club’s history was sacked overnight.

Just seven months after guiding them to the Premier League and League Cup double, Mourinho was let go by the Blues for the second time in his career with technical director Michael Emenalo citing tension between the manager and his players as a major factor.

Chelsea have also endured a disastrous title defence with nine defeats in 15 games leaving them in 16th on the EPL ladder just one point above the relegation zone. Even Mourinho had conceded this week that the Blues were too far gone to finish in the top four this season.

Despite their fall, Mourinho remains the most successful manager in the club’s 110 years with three Premierships, three league cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield win to his credit.

He is tipped to be replaced by Dutch veteran Guus Hiddink for the remainder of the season.
