Macau's multi-hotel casino concept a winner

Written by James Potter

One of the amazing things we’ve witnessed thanks to the casino trade is different hotel brands operating under the one roof.

Casinos want all sorts of clientele to use their properties. Some casinos cater specifically to the very upper end of the market, whereas others have a more modest offering but in the Asia Pacific region most properties try to encourage as much business as they can – right across the board.

By comparison, Las Vegas has always tended to target selected audiences. Wynn and Bellagio go after the top end of town while places like the Palms and Hard Rock target the young party set. This works in Las Vegas but it certainly doesn’t work where casino options are limited, nor has it been the avenue Macau casinos have taken.

Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, has three hotels each of which caters to different levels of clientele although they all operate under the Crown banner. Galaxy Macau, City of Dreams and Sands Cotai Central have taken this idea further by having totally different hotel brands operating under the one roof.

This provides these larger properties with a great range of accommodation options for their patrons. Galaxy hotel is very family orientated whereas Banyan Tree is much more suited to those looking for a more peaceful (and more upmarket) option. No matter how many tiers of rooms you have in a single brand hotel, it doesn’t compete with Macau’s great concept of having separate hotels within the one property, each appealing to different clientele.
