Macau’s time to shine

Written by Ben Blaschke

The Aussie Millions is over for another year and although we have ANZPT events in both Perth and Sydney to look forward to in the coming weeks, the main focus for the next month or two will be Macau with four major tournament series being held in the PokerStars LIVE room at City of Dreams.

The first of those, the ACOP Platinum III series, begins this Thursday 20 February. This four day series boasts just four events with buy-ins as low as HK$1,000 – culminating in the HK$5,500 Main Event on Saturday. While the HK$500,000 guarantee makes winning well worthwhile, perhaps the first goal of all who enter will be to reach the top 10 with those players not only vying for the Main Event crown but also qualifying for a separate ACOP: Platinum Series playoff where one will win a seat into the HK$100,000 ACOP Main Event in November.

Soon after the ACOP Platinum series, we welcome the return of the Macau Millions for the first time since 2011. This hugely popular event set a record in Asia of 1,329 entries the last time it was held – smashing the HK$1.5 million guarantee – and with a HK$2 million guarantee this time around we could see more records tumbling when the series kicks off on 7 March.

Rounding out the trifecta is another ACOP Platinum Series from 17 to 20 April, followed by APPT Macau from 14 to 25 May. Exciting times for poker in Macau!
