MPC20 eyes record breaking field

Written by Ben Blaschke

This week sees poker in Macau reach a significant milestone with the 20th running of the Macau Poker Cup (MPC). What began as a small, localized event back in May 2008 with just 33 runners has morphed into one of the biggest events in the Asia-Pacific region.

Last April, the PokerStars LIVE room made the long awaited move to its new home at City of Dreams and celebrated in style with the MPC Main Event, known as the Red Dragon, attracting a record field of 891 players and creating a first prize of HK$1.8 million! Will the 20th running of the Red Dragon create a new record?

The first MPC of 2014 features a 14-event schedule starting this Friday 10 January with the HK$2,000 Deep Stack Event and culminating with the HK$11,000 Red Dragon which runs from Thursday 16 January to Tuesday 21 January.

Other highlights include the HK$6,000 Baby Dragon which features a HK$1 million guarantee, the HK$20,000 No Limit Hold’em Event which also boasts a HK$1 million guarantee and the HK$50,000 High Roller.

Keep an eye on Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin as she looks to add an unprecedented third Reds Dragon title to her already impressive CV. Lin has enjoyed remarkable success in the Red Dragon, having finished runner-up at MPC2 in 2008, become the first ever female champion at MPC7 and then the only person to win two Red Dragons when she prevailed again at MPC16 – a record she still holds to this day.
