Not dragging his Chane

Written by Ben Blaschke

Poker tournaments are fickle beasts. To win one you need a lot of factors to come together – from skill, good play and good timing to the occasional slice of good fortune – so it’s important that you take every opportunity you get to win a major tournament because more than likely it’s the only chance you’ll get.

Not so Thailand’s Chane Kampanatsanyakorn. Twelve months ago, Kampanatsanyakorn thought his chance had passes him by when he finished runner-up in the APPT Seoul Main Event but last night he made amends for that near miss as he returned to claim top prize at APPT Seoul 2014.

He did it in style, too, overcoming a record Seoul field of 256 players and a final table boasting Hong Kong’s Winfred Yu. Kampanatsanyakorn won ₩ 150 million – around US$142,000 – for his efforts.

It also proved to be a good trip for recent Macau Millions champion Hao Chen. Just two weeks after besting the mammoth 1,803-player field to win the Macau Millions, Chen finished third in a Pot Limit Omaha side event in Seoul to move into first place in the 2014 Asia Player of the Year rankings.
