Pokerstars future at Grand Lisboa in doubt

Written by Andrew W Scott

Pokerstars future at Grand Lisboa is now clearly in doubt, after PokerStars Macau announced the 2012 Macau Millions has been postponed indefinitely.

“Our current agreement to operate PokerStars Macau events and tournaments at Casino Grand Lisboa will expire in March. As a result, the Macau Millions will be postponed for a later date”, said Danny McDonagh, PokerStars Director of Live Operations in Asia-Pacific.

McDonagh added, “The Macau Poker Cup: Red Dragon will take place as planned from February 18 to 26th. We will provide an update on Macau Millions and live poker tournaments in the near future. In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming players to the MPC February and continue to deliver the best live poker experience in Asia.”

Clearly PSM and GL are still in negotiations to renew the agreement. We here at WGM wish PSM all the best in these negotiations. Pokerstars has put in an enormous amount of work to grow poker in Macau and the wider Asian region since the first ever APPT in 2007 and there really needs to be a vibrant and active Pokerstars room in Macau, whether that be at Grand Lisboa or another casino.

Pokerstars Macau did a great thing this year by announcing their program for the entire year in advance. This is something that really helps the players so they can plan their travel for the year. But those dates now have to be taken with a pinch of salt, as it’s clear a venue for PSM is no longer certain.

We’ll keep an eye on this developing story and bring more news to you as it comes to hand.
