Positive outlook for December GGR

Written by Ben Blaschke

Having celebrated a fourth consecutive month of year-on-year growth, Macau can look forward to a gross gaming revenue increase of at least 12 percent in December, according to Union Gaming analyst Grant Govertsen.

Figures released late last week by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau revealed November’s GGR was up 14.4 percent on 2015, having seen growth of 1.1 percent, 7.4 percent and 8.5 percent in the three months prior.

November’s numbers were achieved despite having one less Sunday than last year, with weekends tending to be the most profitable days for operators. Conversely, December will enjoy one extra Friday and Saturday compared to 2015.

“Our current estimate is +12% or MOP$20.5 billion,” said Govertsen, “buoyed by the favorable calendar and western New Year (with NYE landing on an all-important Saturday).”
