Rosenqvist eyes Macau Grand Prix record

Written by Ben Blaschke

Defending champion Felix Rosenqvist has described his past success at the Macau Grand Prix as the most significant of his burgeoning career, insisting nothing was going to stop him from returning in 2016 in pursuit of a unique place in history.

Rosenqvist, the 2015 European F3 champion, has won the past two Macau GPs and can become not only the first driver to win the race three times but also three years consecutively should he repeat his success in 2016.

“Just saying the words ‘Macau’ and ‘Formula 3’ brings a smile to my face, so I’m absolutely thrilled to be racing there once again this year,” the rising Swedish star said. “It’s the one race in the world that has had the greatest impact on me and my career and when the prospect of doing it again with SJM Theodore Racing by Prema came up, it was simply too tempting an opportunity. I really can’t wait to get back out on track in Macau and experiencing that driving sensation again; you can’t get it anywhere else.”

The most successful team in Macau GP history with eight wins, SJM Theodore Racing by Prema will have three cars in this year’s race with 2015 Japanese Fornula 3 champion Nick Cassidy and 2016 European Formula 3 runner-up Max Gunther alongside Rosenqvist.
