Macau eSports firm FVESL is helping local players make a real splash on the international stage via hugely popular mobile game Clash Royale.

Macau eSports organization FVESL is taking on the world with its very first Clash Royale team, KIX, invited to take part in the inaugural Clash Royale League.

Clash Royale League (CRL) is the official global eSports league for the real-time PvP mobile card game Clash Royale, which sees teams from all regions of the world invited to take part in regional competitions for their share of US$1 million in prize money.

After announcing the European and North American CRL teams in April, game developer Supercell recently revealed the names of the teams for CRL Asia. The league, which excludes mainland China, boasts 12 teams including four from Japan, four from Korea and four from Southeast Asia. It is the Southeast Asian contingent that boasts Macau team KIX.

It was July 2017 when FVESL launched its online eSports tournament platform, fvesl.com, hosting weekly tournaments for various eSports titles where players from all over Asia gathered on the platform and battled it out in weekly competitions.

“After several months, we realized that some players were showing strong and regular performances,” explained FVESL Managing Director Charles Fauchet.

“On several occasions, established professional players joined the platform and some members competed very favorably against them. From here FVESL decided it was time to launch its team by gathering our best members: hence Clash Royale KIX team was born!”

KIX consists of players from Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore, and their early performances against some of the best Clash Royale players in the region have been impressive since being invited to take part the inaugural season of the CRL.

With three wins and two losses at the time of writing, KIX sat second of four teams in the Southeast Asian division with the top team per division progressing to the finals. In total there are 36 teams competing worldwide.

Season 2 starts in August with the best team form each region over the first two seasons meeting the best teams of the other regions – North America, Europe, Latin America and China – in the World Finals in December.

Clash Royale is one of the world’s most popular mobile games with more than 100 million players.
