Sands: Fantan and Crab Cakes

Written by The Dragon

Pai Yao, the Panda and yours truly headed down for a bite to eat at one of their old stomping grounds last night – Copa at the Sands. We would like to report that Copa remains one of Macau’s best steak houses and if you are lucky enough to eat there you must try the crab cakes. Even The Panda had to admit they were amongst the finest he has eaten.

The Gang then went on a tour of the gaming floor which is not just surviving in the new era of Macau but thriving. Plenty of tables and plenty of games were keeping all the players entertained. The Sands boasts a number of Fast Action Baccarat tables which provide the fastest baccarat option in Macau for as little as HK$100 on Player and Banker or HK$50 on Ties and Pairs. There is a live dealer and players still get to use real chips. It is a great innovation and look out for an article in WGM soon on this exciting new baccarat game.

The other great news is the Sands has gone “fantan crazy”. That’s right, this traditional game of buttons is back in a big way and Sands could probably call itself the home of fantan in Macau. There are four tables, the action is huge and the excitement around these tables is enormous. I even heard a rumor that a fantan tournament is on its way. We will keep you posted about any developments. I love the fact that a traditional Chinese game such as this is making a strong comeback in Macau and I applaud the Sands for their innovation.
