So near, so far for Hellmuth

Written by Ben Blaschke

In the end it wasn’t to be for Phil Hellmuth, who reached his 50th career World Series of Poker final table earlier in the week in the US$1,500 Seven-card Razz but couldn’t quite convert it to a record 14th bracelet. It wasn’t for lack of trying though. Hellmuth held a 2-1 chip lead over fellow veteran Ted Forrest at the start of Heads-Up play and the pair battled for five hours before Forrest finally won his sixth bracelet 10 years after his fifth.

We’ve seen two other notable events reach their conclusion the past few days – the Millionaire Maker No Limit Hold’em and the US$10,000 Limit Omaha Hi-Low Championship. The Millionaire Maker boasted a small US$1,500 buy-in and a whopping US$1 million guarantee for the winner so it was no surprise to see a huge field of 7,977 players take their chance at a life-changing pay day. In the end it was Jonathan Dimmig who prevailed for a stunning US$1,319,587 pay day.

Meanwhile, Brock Parker won his third career bracelet in the Omaha for US$443,407. Parker outlasted a top quality field of 178 players for the win and looks to be in great form having already reached the final table of the US$1,500 Seven-Card Razz a few days earlier.
