Songcheng announces Australian theme park

Chinese theme park operator Songcheng Performance Development has revealed plans for an AU$400 million theme park on Australia’s Gold Coast.

In what signals a first overseas move for China’s theme park giant, the project has been nicknamed “The Australian Legendary Kingdom” and is set to be located in the coastal town of Nerang.

In a filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Songcheng said that the park would, “offer a mixture of Australian culture and oriental culture, which will meet diversified tourist demand from different age groups.”

Australia has long been a favorite destination for Chinese tourists, but this latest development comes amid an increased push to boost numbers with the Queensland government announcing this week plans to build a new integrated resort in a regional area.
